Boko Haram seize Nigeria towns

Boko Haram insurgents have overrun much of a northeastern
Nigerian town after hours of fighting that has killed scores and
displaced thousands of residents, several security sources said on
Tuesday.
The Islamists launched an attack on the town of Bama, 70 km (45
miles) from the Borno state capital of Maiduguri, on Monday. They
were initially repelled but came back in greater numbers overnight,
the sources and witnesses said.
Nigeria’s defence spokesman did not
comment. There were heavy casualties on both sides.
One security source said as many as 5,000 people fled.
Two months after Islamist militants in Iraq and Syria declared the
area they seized an Islamic caliphate, Boko Haram has also for the
first time explicitly laid claim to territory it says it controls in parts
of northeast Nigeria.
It captured the remote hilly farming town of Gwoza, along the
Cameroon border, during fighting last month. The group’s leader
Abubakar Shekau in a video declared it a “Muslim territory” that
would be ruled by strict Islamic law.
Shekau’s forces have killed thousands since launching an uprising in
2009 to carve an Islamic state out of religiously mixed Nigeria.
“When we started hearing gunshots, everybody was confused. There
was firing form different directions. We just ran to the outskirts of
town,” Bukar Auwalu, a trader who fled with his wife, three children
and brother, told Reuters by phone.
“There were military helicopters and a fighter jet. We slept in the
bush on the outskirts of town.”

Nigerian goalkeeper Enyeama sent off?

Super Eagles’ captain, Vincent Enyeama’ received a 41st minute caution as Lille was held to a 1-1 draw by money-bag, Monaco, in a French Ligue 1 tie yesterday. French forward, Nolan Roux, shot Lille, that was away at the Stade Louis in Monaco, ahead in the 18th minute.

The scores remained like that until the 61st minute, when Dimitar Berbatov scored the equalizer for the home side, after good work by Belgian midfielder, Yannick Ferreira Carrasco.

The other Super Eagles player that would have been on show during the encounter, Elderson Uwa Echiejile, was an unused substitute for Monaco

Inter gets straight-foward win

The Serie A giants did not have things their own way against the
Icelandic part-timers but will take a two-goal lead back to San Siro
next week
Stjarnan's giant-killing act in the Europa League could not continue
against Italian giants Inter as they suffered a 3-0 home defeat that
all but ends their hopes of progressing to the group stage.
The Icelandic outfit held out for over 40 minutes before Mauro
Icardi opened the scoring in favour of Walter Mazzarri's side, but
that goal did not open the floodgates as the Serie A outfit might
have hoped. Nevertheless, second half strikes from Dodo and Danilo
D'Ambrosio have killed off the tie as a contest.

BREAKING: Keshi and Yobo resigns

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi has resigned his appointment after leading the team to the second round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking after the Eagles were eliminated by France in the round of 16 match in Brasilia, Monday, the Delta State-born tactician said it was time to move on after leading his country’s national team to the Africa Nations Cup trophy last year and the ongoing World Cup in Brazil.

“I have to go back to my family and face fresh challenges,” Keshi said.

After a month of

Flight 370, according to CNN
A pinger locator in the Indian Ocean has detected
signals consistent with those emitted by aircraft
black boxes, the head of the Joint Agency
Coordination Center said Monday.
The sounds were heard at a depth of 4,500 meters
(about 14,764 feet), retired Air Chief Marshal Angus
Houston said.
